Ever since I was a little girl, I proudly declared I would become a veterinarian. I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend their life surrounded by animals? Fast forward to my teenage years, I landed a volunteer gig at a vet clinic, and it was…let’s just say not ideal. I quickly realized this wasn’t the dream I was anticipating. So, bye-bye vet school dreams.
Instead, I pivoted to owning a spa business for almost 20 years. I pampered humans instead of animals, which was fine—until I closed the business right before COVID. Cue existential crisis. With the world falling apart, I decided to lean into my fitness and nutrition obsession by coaching clients. It was great until I remembered I still had bills to pay and jumped into an 8-5 office job. Spoiler alert: Cubicle life and I were not a match. I lasted about as long as it takes to eat a soggy salad in the breakroom.
Then, I tried my hand as a business and sales coach, which was rewarding—until life threw me a curveball in the form of a family emergency. With stress levels higher than my caffeine intake, my doctor said, “Find something you enjoy!” My first thought? Dogs. I figured, “If I could just play with puppies all day and make a little extra cash, life would be grand.”
Enter my brilliant plan: a Rover account. No expectations, just me, dogs, and maybe a few bucks. Turns out, dogs loved me as much as I loved them, and within a month, I was busier than a squirrel at a peanut butter factory. That’s when I thought, “Wait, could this be a thing?” A few late-night number-crunching sessions later, I launched Walk This Way Dog Walking + Training.
Now, I’m living the dream—hanging out with furballs, running my own business, and occasionally dodging a rogue pile of poop. It’s rewarding, challenging, and exactly what little-girl-me would have loved.
